Madekwe was born into an ethnically diverse family. She's English but her father was Nigerian. She was raised in a council estate located south of London. At the age 14, she attended The Brit School. It was the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art is where she earned an acting BA. She performed in various stages during her high time at school, including the King Henry V and Wuthering Heights.
Madekwe began her acting career in the film Storm Damage. In the years since Madekwe's appearance in Teachers and Doctors. Madekwe's breakthrough came in 2007's Woody Allen film Cassandra's Dream. In May 2013 that she was set to leave the series after making a guest episode in the initial episode of season three. Between 2014 and the year 2016, she appeared on Salem in the role of Tituba. Madekwe married her actor partner Iddo goldberg in June 2012. Together, they worked in the film Secret Diary of a Call Girl. He also played alongside Madekwe on Salem.

Ashley Leggat, an actress that was nominated two times for a Gemini Award, comes from an extensive Hamilton family. Her parents, Roy and Patty along with her four brothers, Brett, Todd, and Bram and Bram, were present.
